As a woman on the other side of addiction, Shantell sheds her skin to Lori by sharing her personal journey to the creation of this record. Riddled with family chaos, drama, and death, Shantell looked to her faith to lead her in a safe direction. Shantell and Lori have a beautifully authentic conversation about all things recovery and the upcoming release of Shantell’s new recovery album One Step Closer: Songs to Recover By.
Oh, and Lori talks about the time she (alcohol) made the choice to sit and pout in ditch instead of watch Old Dominion’s private residence concert (pre-bazillion albums sold, awards won and freaky fan girls like me.)
If you are the family member of someone suffering in active addiction, mental illness, or other life unrest, please know that you are not alone. This story will have your head nodding with a consistent “yeah me too” as these two women share their vulnerable side to each other.
In typical Recovery Hour fashion, there is lots of laughter, goofiness AND… you guessed it, singing! You do not want to miss this episode!
PRESS RELEASE: Nashville-based artist/songwriter Shantell Ogden will soon release One Step Closer: Songs to Recover By an acoustic album with songs about the journey of addiction recovery. The nine-song album was fully fan-funded and will be released on February 19, 2021.
Each song tells a relevant story about addiction; from the gritty rock bottom of "St. Augustine" and "High Way Calls" to the hopeful "One Step Closer" and "Hand Up." Most families have experienced drug and alcohol addiction including Shantell's.
"Some of the most disturbing headlines during the pandemic have been about the increase in overdose and addiction due to stress, financial strain, depression, and isolation," said Shantell. "These songs shed a light on the struggles of addiction. There's a kind of catharsis and validation in hearing raw emotions expressed in a song - music is powerful."
Hundreds of albums will be donated to those in recovery programs across the U.S. In addition, fan-funded concerts are also being planned to share the music live.
"It is our hope that this music will touch hearts and inspire healing," added Shantell.
